Welcome to The MCC Lab

We do things a little differently around here.

  • No pressure for perfection

Here in The MCC Lab, mistakes are opportunities to learn something new — so if I mess something up during a lesson, I don't edit the video... I leave it in there and show you how to fix it!

  • Learn at your own pace

Every month, a new theme and it's lessons will be released; binge-watch them all at once or spread them out week-to-week when you can find the time. Once released, classes are always available for replays!

  • Learn by experimenting

Experiment with your art! This is a place for trial-and-error. Let me show you different methods that get similar results; you can test them out on your own art and see which one suits you best.

So... what are we painting?

Every month, I'll be releasing a new "theme" consisting of 3-4  different paintings to help you master that theme/subject.  Active subscribers also get access to a special "bonus class" every quarter, themed for the season.

Take a peek at the 2022 calendar to see what's coming up:

Let's paint together! Join us in the lab and let's experiment.

What's included in the membership?

  • 48 individual painting tutorials across 12 themes (released monthly)

  • 16 bonus lessons across 4 seasonal themes, available only to members

  • Traceable sketches - no drawing necessary!

  • Self-paced courses - learn when it's most convenience for you!

Or choose the themes you want!

Not sure you want to subscribe to all the lessons? Classes are also available individually for sign-up so you can just paint what you like.

Still have questions?

  • Are these classes live or pre-recorded?

All of the lessons are pre-recorded, so you can take them on your own time - no need to worry about scheduling conflicts or time zone differences!

  • What kind of supplies do I need?

You will need the basics to start out - watercolour paper, paints, and a brush or two - and I've prepared a list of recommended supplies at a variety of price points. We'll be using the same supplies throughout the lessons so you don't have to spend a fortune buying all sorts of different items to get started.

  • How long will I have access to the videos?

As long as your membership is active, all the videos that have been published will remain available to you (with new videos added monthly!) If you purchased access to a single theme instead of a membership, you will always have access to that set of videos.

  • How long are the videos?

Each lesson varies in length depending on the difficulty of the material. For each theme, I start with a simpler painting and increase the difficulty a little bit for each subsequent tutorial in the theme, giving you a chance to practice and expand on what you've learned. Videos can vary in length fro 20 to 60 minutes; you can also pause, rewind, or even re-watch if it's feeling a bit too fast-paced or you want to do a painting over.

  • What if I need extra support?

There's a private Facebook group set up just for members of The MCC Lab - join us to share your work, discuss the tutorials, ask questions, or interact with other artists.

  • My question wasn't answered here!

No problem - send me an email at [email protected] and I can help you with any other questions you still have!

Meet AJ

(And buckle up. Things are about to get sassy.)

AJ Filopoulos

With a quirky sense of humour and drawn to things magical/spiritual, AJ strives to bring a sense of fun, wonder, and enchantment to her work. Born on the cusp of rebirth (and far more Pisces than Aries), AJ works best when challenging herself with various mediums and different art features, leading her to create a diverse portfolio, with traditional mediums like watercolour or gouache counter balancing her modern work of digital illustration and graphic design.

These aren't your grandma's art classes – AJ believes in embracing mistakes and learning through experimentation. In these classes, if something goes wrong? AJ doesn't re-record and start again; she leaves the accident in, points out what went wrong, and shows you how to fix it. Because let's face it: as we've all seen lately, things have a tendency to go awry and it's never a bad idea to have a backup plan.
